The first documentary about the company...
Deadline reports that The LEGO Group is working with filmmakers on a documentary about the toys that have been around for decades. The Global Emerging Markets (GEM) Group are working with Daniel Junge (Saving Face) and Kief Davidson (Open Heart) on Beyond The Brick: A LEGO® Brickumentary.
This will be the first feature-length documentary on the brand. Brendan Kiernan and Justin Moore-Lewy will produce. Along with the toys and company, it will also look at Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOLs), fan conventioneers, LEGO artists, and famous LEGO fans. The film will be released in early 2014.
Jill Wilfert, VP of Licensing and Entertainment for The Lego Group, said: "LEGO bricks are everywhere, and this documentary is an examination of their footprint in our global community. The LEGO brick has transcended language, politics, age, race, art, science and technology – all through its ability to draw out the basic human need to create and share."
She is also the executive producer on Warner Bros. CG-animated The LEGO Movie, which will be directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord (Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs) and voiced by Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Chris Pratt, and Elizabeth Banks. The film will be released on February 7, 2014.
