[Movies] The Wolverine Debuts At #1 In China

Continuing its success...
The Wolverine has debuted at #1 in China, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It brought in $18.17 million (111.2 million yuan) in its first week even though it's already been out weeks (or months) in Hong Kong and other markets. This helped 20th Century Fox International's global ticket sales for 2013 go over $2 billion.
The film opened in July in other markets. A late release in China means most people will have seen the film on pirated DVDs and illegal downloads, which hurt ticket sales. The film's action and performance from Hugh Jackman seem to have brought in the audiences anyway. Jackman came to China for the premiere, which was covered by local media. There were 2.96 million admissions for the film in the first week.
On the week of October 14-20, The Wolverine beat Donnie Yen's police film Special ID ($10.9 million or 66.52 million yuan), Louis Leterrier's Now You See Me ($7.95 million, a total of $17.91 million), Love Will Tear Us Apart ($6.36 million, featuring Feng Shaofeng and Ni Ni) and Tsui Hark's Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon ($5.92 million $94.7 million in 23 days).
