Superhero Hype reports that Disney and Marvel have announced a new anime series called Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers. It will debut in Japan in spring 2014. This will be the first Japanese Marvel animated TV series aimed at boys.
The series will be produced by the Nerima-ku, Tokyo-based Toei Animation Co (Dragon Ball Z). Taito-ku, Tokyo-based Bandai Co. will be responsible for character merchandising. The three companies will create a fully localized Japanese series as well as merchandise aimed at the boys demographic.
The story will involve The Avengers (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and The Hulk), along with Spider-Man and a group of teens, teaming up to stop Loki's attempt to take over the world. IT will target the boys 6-12 demographic.
Walt Disney Japan is attempting to localize content to appeal to Japanese audiences. The company has produced and broadcast several Japan shows, including the animated series Fireball in 2008, which was the show's first animated series produced in Japan to Stitch!, which moved the character from Hawaii to Okinawa.
