[TV] Amazon Studios Announces Cast Of Mozart in the Jungle
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.05.2013

Coming Soon reports that Amazon Studios has announced the cast of Mozart in the Jungle, a new pilot directed by Paul Weitz. It will debut on Prime Instant Video and LOVEFiLM early next year. It was written by Roman Coppola (The Darjeeling Limited), Jason Schwartzman (Moonrise Kingdom, Rushmore) and Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher).

The series stars Gael Garcia Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries as Rodrigo, the new conductor of the New York Symphony. Malcolm McDowell (Franklin & Bash) plays Thomas, a veteran conducted being forced into retirement by Rodrigo. Lola Kirke (Reaching for the Moon) is oboist Hailey, Bernadette Peters (Smash) plays Gloria, the Chairwoman of the Board of the symphony. The series also stars Saffron Burrows (Law & Order: Criminal Intent) as Cynthia, a cellist in the middle of an affair with Thomas, Peter Vack (CBGB) as Joshua, a talented dancer out of Julliard who becomes Hailey's love interest, and Hannah Dunne (This is It) as Lizzie, Hailey's friend and roommate.

Here's a synopsis: "Mozart in the Jungle" is about sex, drugs—and classical music—and shows what happens behind the curtains at the symphony can be just as captivating as what happens on stage.

Director and executive producer Weitz said: "It's an excellent and fun cast. They all enjoyed stepping through the looking glass into characters who are obsessed with a very different discipline."

Customers will be invited in early 2014 to watch, provide feedback and decide which pilot will become a series on Prime Instant Video and Amazon's LOVEFiLM in the UK. Pilots include Chris Carter's The After, Bosch, based on the Harry Bosch book series by Michael Connelly, Matt Alvarez and Michael Strahan's The Rebels and Jill Soloway's (Six Feet Under) Transparent.
