"The Star" caps off the show's best season yet...
The season finale of Homeland has had a lot of fans arguing about its merits, but in terms of viewership it ranks at the top of the spy show's game to date. Showtime has revealed that the episode, "The Star," now ranks as the series highest-rated episode ever with 2.49 million viewers in its original airing and another half a million in the encore airing for a total of 2.9 million for the night. The previous highs went to the penultimate episode of season two for an original airing and the season two finale for the overall night.
The third season has averaged seven million weekly viewers, up 18% from last season, and is the only Showtime network series to cross the seven million weekly viewership mark.
In other Showtime news, the first season finale of Masters of Sex was up 21% from its season premiere and 8% on the overall night with 1.2 million in the initial airing and 1.5 million for the night. The show is averaging 4.8 million weekly viewers, which is up 13% from Homeland's record-breaking freshman season.
