[Movies] Steven Seagal Says He Didn't Join Expendables 3 Because of Personal Reasons
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 12.20.2013

Steven Seagal, if you may recall, was interested in being in The Expendables 3 and spoke with Sylvester Stallone about a potential role back in May. However, he ultimately didn't end up joining the star-heavy project and he says it was because of someone involved with the production.

IGN spoke with Seagal and when asked about it, he said that "some unpleasant politics" with "certain folks, not the actors" caused him to not be involved. As the site notes, Seagal has a notoriously bad relationship with Expendables producer Avi Lerner; the two had done several straight-to-video projects in the past before falling out and Lerner's involvement led to Seagal turning down a role in the first film. Whether Lerner is the person in this instance or not isn't confirmed.

Seagal said he's still potentially interested, noting, "Hopefully we've gone beyond that [the previous roadblocks]. Sly just called me the other day and said that they were still [interested]. And I said, 'Hey buddy, you're my friend, let me know.' He said he was going to send me a script." Whether he means a small cameo in the third film or something for a potential fourth isn't yet known.

The Expendables 3 will star Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Antonio Banderas; it releases on August 15th, 2014.
