[TV] Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss Reveal New Details for Villain in Season 3 of Sherlock (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 12.21.2013

Digital Spy recently spoke with Sherlock co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss on the new villain for season three of show, Charles Augustus Magnussen. Magnussen will be played by The Killing actor Lars Mikkelsen.

According to Moffat, Magnussen is an "oustanding villain" who will give viewers "proper chills." The character is a variation of the original Sherlock Holmes character Charles Augustus Milverton, created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Gatiss stated, "Lars is a stunning actor and the nicest man. He's a delight to be around. He's brought something really interesting and new to the show. We've talked about doing Charles Augustus Milverton for quite some time. He's a proper big realized baddie. His original title was The Worst Man in London."

Moffat added, "He allowed us to move the character on. He's now Danish. Like everything in Sherlock, we take the original and move it around slightly. I think he's an outstanding villain. He will give you proper chills and make you shrivel at times."

Sherlock will return on BBC on January 1, New Year's Day. Episode two hits on January 5, and the final episode will be shown a week later on January 12.
