Big money for the film...
The Hobbit franchise continues to rake in the money. With domestic and foreign grosses counted up through Thursday, the film has topped $500 million worldwide. That number has come on the back of a strong international gross for the film, where it stands at $343.5 million from fifty-seven markets including strong fronts in the UK and Australia. Add in another $160.5 million domestically and it is at $504 million total.
Warner Bros. domestic distribution topper Dan Fellman told Variety that the studio expects the strong grosses to continue, saying, "Peter Jackson has delivered the perfect holiday treat for moviegoers. We anticipate that the film will continue to have terrific playability well into the new year as more people join in the adventure or return to experience it again and again."
