[Movies] John Goodman Joins The Cast Of The Gambler
Posted by Joseph Lee on 01.09.2014

The Wrap reports that John Goodman (Inside Llewyn Davis) has joined the cast of Rupert Wyatt's (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) remake of 1974's The Gambler for Paramount.

Mark Wahlberg plays the title character. Karel Reisz directed the original film, which starred James Caan as a literature professor who gets in trouble with his mother, girlfriend and gangsters as a result of his gambling addiction.

The remake also stars Brie Larson, Jessica Lange, Michael K. Williams and Travis Tope. Goodman will play a Jewish loan shark that Walhberg owes money to. Screenwriter James Toback based the original film on his own life . William Monahan (The Departed) wrote the new version, which will be similar to the original. Producer of the original film, Irwin Winkler, will also produce the remake.
