Coming Soon reports that all three seasons of Veronica Mars is now streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Instant Video online subscription service. The deal was made with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution and all three seasons are available now. The series stars Kristen Bell and has been adapted into a film that arrives on March 14.
Brad Beale, Director of Digital Video Content Acquisition for Amazon, said: "The 'Veronica Mars' series has been popular on DVD and Amazon Instant Video for years, so we know how much Amazon customers love this iconic television show. We are excited to become the exclusive subscription streaming home for 'Veronica Mars' and to be able to offer the entire TV series to Prime members to enjoy at no additional charge. With the movie coming on March 14, both die-hard fans and new viewers can easily catch-up on this great show."
Ken Werner, President of Warner Bros Domestic Television Distribution, added: "We are thrilled to have Prime Instant Video as a digital distribution outlet for the 'Veronica Mars' TV series. Digital distribution platforms such as Amazon's and licensing deals such as this allow the consumer great opportunities whether they're die-hard fans who just can't get enough or a new consumer turned fan who has discovered a fabulous show with dozens of new episodes."
The film is happening thanks to a Kickstarter campaign launched by Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell that hit its goal of $2 million in ten hours. It eventually hit $5.7 million in 31 days, the most funded project in the film category and third-highest funded project in Kickstarter history. It is the most widely-support campaign ever with 91,000 backers, who have stayed with it through production with behind-the-scenes updates from Thomas and the cast and crew. Amazon Payments handles payment processing for funds raised on Kickstarter projects.
Veronica Mars was a TV series created by Thomas in 2004. It is set in Neptune, California (a fictional town) where high school student Veronica Mars (Bell) works as a private investigator with her detective father as a mentor.
