[TV] The CW Halts Development of Wonder Woman Prequel Amazon Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 01.15.2014
The show will not go to series…
THR reports that The CW has halted development on the TV series project, Amazon, a prequel series focused on Wonder Woman.
The show would've been the origin story for Wonder Woman's alter ego, Diana of Themyscira. The project was announced in September 2012, with Allan Heinberg developing the story. The show was redeveloped in May with Aron Eli Coleite taking another stab at the script. The project was nearly taken to pilot for an off-cycle pickup, but that appears to no longer be the case.
According to CW president Mark Pedowitz, "We did not go forward with it."
When asked if CW would ever take another stab at a show around the Wonder Woman character, Pedowitz said, "It all depends on the script. We were very careful with Arrow, and we're being very careful with Flash. These are iconic characters, so we're going to be very careful with Wonder Woman. You only get one shot before you get bit."
The network is currently developing DC projects such as Hourman and iZombie. NBC recently ordered a pilot based on the John Constantine character. And Fox is prepping the Batman prequel, Gotham.
