[Movies] Alfonso Cuaron Wins DGA Award for Gravity

Alfonso Cuaron took home the top prize at the 2013 Director's Guild Awards. Cuaron won the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Feature Film for his work on Gravity, positioning him among the front-runners for the Academy Award for Best Director. This is Cuaron's first win and first nomination by the DGA, despite being nominated for three Academy Awards (albeit for writing and editing) previously.

The Director's Guild Award is considered to be a major predictor for the Oscars, with fifty-eight of the sixty-five DGA winners going on to win the corresponding Oscar. In addition, ten of the last twelve DGA winners have won Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
