[TV] Jonathan Banks Joins The Cast Of Better Call Saul
Posted by Joseph Lee on 01.29.2014

Deadline reports that Jonathan Banks has joined the cast of Better Call Saul, reuniting him with star Bob Odenkirk. The series is a prequel to AMC/Sony TV's Breaking Bad, focusing on criminal lawyer Saul Goodman before the events of that series in which he became Walter White's lawyer.

Banks will be a series regular on the show, which was put together by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and writer/producer Peter Gould. It will debut on AMC in November. Banks will once again play Saul's private investigator/fixer Michael "Mike" Ehrmantraut. He was a regular on Breaking Bad and played Mike for two and a half seasons after being introduced in the second season finale.

Mike is a former Philadelphia police officer who worked as Head of Corporate Security for Los Pollos Hermanos and enforcer in Gustavo Fring's meth operation. He later became involved with Walter (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse (Aaron Paul) and was killed in the season 5A finale while trying to get out of the drug business. He recieved an Emmy nomination for his role in the 2012 half of season five, one of two (the first was in 1987 for Wiseguy).

Odenkirk and Banks are the only cast members set for the series so far. There has been some speculation about which characters from Breaking Bad will appear. Gilligan has said in the past he wanted Mike to come back while both Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston have said they wanted to be a part of the show. Jesse has also been considered for a return.
