[Movies] Shia LaBeouf Not Retired, Joins Cast Of Rock The Kasbah
Posted by Joseph Lee on 01.31.2014

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shia LaBeouf is not retired, and will join the cast of Barry Levinson's Rock the Kasbah. The film stars Bill Murray. Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson, Danny McBride and Zooey Deschanel. The film will begin shooting in June from a script by Mitch Glazer.

This comes after LaBeouf tweeted two weeks ago that he was retiring from "all public life" because of "attacks against his artistic integrity."

Brian Grazer and Tom Freston will executive produce. QED International will shop the project to foreign buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin. Bill Block from QED will produce with Glazer, Venture Forth's Jacob Pechenik and Shangri-La Entertainment's Steve Bing.

Here's a synopsis: Rock the Kasbah tells the story of Richie Vance, a a has-been rock manager who takes his last remaining client on a USO tour of Afghanistan. When Richie finds himself in Kabul, abandoned, penniless and without his passport, he discovers a young girl with an extraordinary voice and manages her through Afghanistan's version of American Idol, the wildly popular Afghan Star.

Levinson said: "I couldn't have dreamed of a more perfect team of comic actors to round out this wickedly funny and heartfelt film."
