[Movies] Marc Webb Reveals New Character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 02.03.2014

Chalk up one more potential villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, or at least a seed set for a future one. Marc Webb posted to Twitter revealing that B.J. Novak will be playing Alistair Smythe in the upcoming film.

For those not up to their Spidey mythology, Alistair Smythe was the son of Spencer Smythe. Spencer created the first "Spider-Slayer," robots designed to kill Spider-Man (with J. Jonah Jameson commissioning the robots). Spencer eventually died due to radioactive poisoning from his work with the robots and Alistair picked up on his father's work, proving a long-term villain for the webslinger until his own demise last year in the pages of Superior Spider-Man. Whether the film Alistair will be a villain, set the scene for a future appearance or be a cameo isn't known.

Opening in theaters on May 2, 2014, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field, Chris Cooper, and Sarah Gadon.
