[Movies] Matthew McConaughey Joins The Cast Of Gus Van Sant's Sea of Trees
Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.04.2014

The Wrap reports that Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club, True Detective) has signed on to star with Ken Watanabe in Gus Van Sant's Sea of Trees. The film comes from a script by Chris Sparling (Buried), which was voted to the 2013 Black List. Gil Netter (Life of Pie) will produce. The film will begin production soon.

Here's a synopsis: Follows an American man (McConaughey) who takes a journey into the infamous "Suicide Forest" at the foothills of Mount Fuji with the intention of taking his own life. When he is interrupted by a Japanese man (Watanabe) who has had second thoughts about his own suicide, and is trying to find his way out of the forest, the two begin a journey of reflection and survival.

Neither McConaughey and Watanabe have worked with Van Sant before, although both have worked with Christopher Nolan (Interstellar for McConaughey, Inception and Batman Begins for Watanabe). This will be Van Sant's next film after he directed Promised Land, which starred Matt Damon and John Krasinski.
