[Movies] Jason Statham To Return For The Mechanic 2
Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.07.2014

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Statham is set to return for a sequel to The Mechanic. German director Dennis Gansel (The Wave, Before the Fall, The Fourth State) is in talks to direct. The first film was released in 2011.

Gansel is a popular director in Germany and has been approached by US producers in the past. He previously turned them down to finance and produce his own films out of Germany with Rat Pack and Constantin Film.

Statham will once again play the "mechanic" Arthur Bishop, an assassin who can cleanly kill targets and make it look like an accident while maintaining a strict code of conduct. The first film was directed by Simon West and co-starred Ben Foster. It's unknown if any of the original cast will return, although it will be hard for some of them to reprise their roles after the events of that film. Nu Image is shopping the film to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin.

The original earned $29 million domestically and a total of $51 million at the worldwide box office. The film had a budget of $41 million.
