Gilliam is giving the troubled project another shot...
Speaking to Empire, Terry Gilliam revealed that filming is expected to start for his Don Quixote project on September 29 on the Canary Islands.
Gilliam actually began production on the film in 2000 with Jean Rochefort as Quixote and Johnny Depp as Sancho Panza. The shoot encountered many dilemmas and conflicts and was never finished. The behind-the-scenes trouble for the production later became a feature-length documentary, Lost in La Mancha, in 2002.
According to Gilliam, he has brought on Spanish producer Adrian Guerra (Buried, Red Lights, Grand Piano) for the film. He stated, "He's really smart, loves movies. He's young enough to still love movies. But we've still got to cast it and get the money but other than that, that's the deal."
He also added on rewriting the film for the new casts, "We keep rewriting the script each time, too, so it's a slightly different film each time. It's the same film but the details change. Maybe it's better, it's certainly slightly smaller to fit into the new clothing we wear. Which are cheap clothes these days."
