[TV] The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Debut Scores in the Ratings
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 02.18.2014

Last night's debut of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was a big ratings grabber. The first episode of Fallon's run on the venerable late night talk show drew 11.3 million viewers, which is less than the 14.6 million that tuned in for Jay Leno's final episode but is otherwise the highest-viewed episode since--well, since the other time Leno said farewell, which was on May 29th, 2009.

The show was almost double the viewership for Fallon's final Late Show run on Febuary 6th, which aired at the same time as the Tonight debut due to the Olympics coverage. The show had a 3.8 rating in the all-important 18 - 49 demographic, which tied Leno's exit and was the highest since Conan O'Brien said farewell on January 22nd 2010.

The show's ratings in the coming few weeks will be the best indicator of whether Fallon will be able to bump the ratings. The show has averaged four million viewers and a 1.0 in the 18 - 49 demo for the 2013 - 2014 season so far.
