Deadline report sthat Universal Pictures has announced a sequel to Ride Along. The film will reunite director Tim Story with stars Ice Cube and Kevin Hart. In the original, Hart played a security guard who was dating Ice Cube's sister.

The original was released on Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend with a record opening of $41.5 million. As of this past weekend, it has earned $121.2 million worldwide. The three-day gross only dropped 9% even after losing 283 screens with $3,460 per screen.

Universal EVP of Production Scott Bernstein will oversee the film for the studio. Larry Brezner will also produce. The script is expected to have more action and will be more multicutural to expand the demographic. Ride Along is currently in six territories and it will expand into more later. However, 97% of its box office has been from domestic gross. Similarly, Think Like A Man had 95% of its box office come from the US.
