[Movies] NBC Casts Lead Constantine Role
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 02.22.2014

NBC has cast the lead role in its Constantine series and those who were not fans of the changes made in the Keanu Reeves film will be happy to know that it's not an American actor. Deadline reports that Welsh thespian Matt Ryan (Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior) will play the morally flexible supernatural detective in the pilot.

The pilot is written by David S. Goyer and Daniel Cerone and follows John Constantine. Whether the character is based on the original Alan Moore take or the "New 52" continuity isn't known and this casting doesn't help; at thirty two, Ryan could quite possibly portray either as Constantine was thirty-two in his first appearance in Swamp Thing, and he is somewhat younger (but not drastically so) in the new take.
