[Gossip] Eddie Murphy Hit with $50 Million Defamation Suit
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 02.24.2014

Eddie Murphy has been sued by a comedian for $50 million. TMZ reports that comedian Brando Murphy has sued the more well-known Murphy for dafamation, claiming that Eddie is trying to destroy his career by claiming that Brando is just stealing his act.

According to Brando, Eddie claimed that Brando is trying to pass himself off as the star's son which Brando denies. He notes, "The name Murphy is of Irish decent ... and not exclusive to Eddie Murphy, a 'Black Man' of African Ancestry and a purported African American."

The lawsuit continues on, addressing complaints that Brando is trying to look and act like Eddie by saying, "[i] did not create [myself] and that the way [I] looks is an act of GOD." He claims that one of Eddie's people tried to have him killed, though he doesn't address the fact that he appeared in the stand-up tour Sons of Comedy alongside Richard Pryor's son, which of course makes the implication that he's Eddie's son.

Eddie Murphy's lawyert told TMZ, "This is an absolutely ridiculous lawsuit, and we are confident it will be immediately dismissed by the court."
