Over 400 movies...
Superhero Hype reports that Walt Disney STudios has launched a new cloud-based digital movie service called Disney Movies Anywhere. It's a new app for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac and PC. This will allow customers to find, buy, manage and watch movies from Disney, Pixar and Marvel at home or anywhere else. iTunes is the digital movie provider for Disney Movies Anywhere.
This happens at the same time as the digital release of Frozen. The service will feature 400 digital titles. For a limited time, users who activate and connect their DMA account to their iTunes account will get a free copy of The Incredibles.
Alan Berman, President of Walt Disney Studios, said: "Disney Movies Anywhere offers an exceptional consumer experience built around some of the most beloved and popular entertainment brands in the world. This unique technology underscores Disney's commitment to meeting our consumers where they are with the content they want, and we're thrilled to debut with iTunes, the #1 digital media retailer in the world."
The service will include live-action and animated films, along with exclusive content, bonus features, previews of upcoming movies and more. The service will be available on Apple TV as well through iCloud or AirPlay.
Jamie Voris, Chief Technology Officer for Walt Disney Studios, added: "Disney Movies Anywhere is an adaptable digital ecosystem designed to help consumers consolidate their Disney movie collections and enjoy them for years to come. The beauty of this technology is that it enables us to work with iTunes and future provider partners to ensure movie lovers have streamlined access to all of their favorite Disney titles no matter which device they are on. The intuitive layout of the website and app creates an easy and enjoyable browsing environment for the whole family."
Disney has had codes in DVDs and Blu-rays redeemable for digital copies since 2008. Now the codes can be redeemed on DMA, and digital copies previously redeemed through Disney Movie Rewards or iTunes will be active in both DMA and iTunes once the accounts are connected. Customers can now earn Rewards points for their digital purchases through DMA as well.
The functionality of the new service is built on the digital rights locker KeyChest. The app is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at AppStore.com/Disney. You can also sign up here.
