[TV] Marvel To Shoot Netflix Shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage) In New York
Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.26.2014

The Wrap reports that Marvel's four Netflix shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage) will all shoot in New York City. A deal was made between Disney and the State of New York and was announced by Disney CEO Bob Iger and Governor Andrew Cuomo in Times Square today. It will create tax incentives around $4 million to help the shows, which will consist of a total of 60 hour-long episodes minimum.

There will be thirteen episodes devoted to each character and a four-to-eight episode mini-series called The Defenders to wrap everything together.

Iger said: "Since 2008 Disney has directly contributed almost half a billion dollars to New York's economy through television and film production, along with approximately 9,000 jobs for New Yorkers. The Governor's policies make this great state a more affordable and attractive location, opening the door for even greater economic investment and job creation for New Yorkers. Our Marvel series for Netflix will inject millions directly into the local economy and create hundreds of new jobs."

The shows will create at least 3,000 jobs, including 400 full-time jobs. The governor's office suggests that it will bring in around $2.11 billion in spending with companies getting $477 million.

The deal was announced in November. Daredevil will be written by Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard, who has worked with Joss Whedon (The Avengers).

Whedon has been working with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to manage the Cinematic Universe. This includes "Phase Two", with sequels for Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, along with Guardians of the Galaxy (directed by James Gunn) and finally Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The four Netflix shows are the latest from Marvel after Agents of SHIELD (on ABC), and Marvel's first venture into streaming TV.

Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due this summer and was also shot in New York City. It was said to be the biggest movie production in New York history.

Meanwhile, the Marvel press release (via IGN) confirmed that all four shows will film in NYC, but the filming location for The Defenders is currenly not set yet. Production will begin this summer, which means that casting will begin soon.
