[Movies] Director Found For The Birds Remake
Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.28.2014

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Diederick Van Rooijen has been signed to direct the remake of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds for Platinum Dunes, Mandalay Pictures and Universal. He is best known as the writer and director of the Dutch series Penoza, remade in the US as ABC's Red Widow, along with Taped, which is being remade at Sony (with Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher producing). The Birds will be his studio feature debut.

Naomi Watts had been attached to star in the film for some time but is no longer a part of the remake. Jonathan Herman wrote the most recent version of the script. Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller are producing through Platinum Dunes with Peter Guber and David Zelon producing for Mandalay Pictures.

Universal released the 1963 version, which starred Tippi Hedren. It featured flying birds attacking and killing human beings for seemingly no reason. Universal has said that the remake will be more like the Daphne du Maurier short story.
