[Movies] Warner Bros. Comes Aboard Johnny Depp's Black Mass
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 02.28.2014

Warner Bros. has agreed to co-finance and distribute the Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass. Deadline reports that the studio has gone with the Scott Cooper-directed film which will star Johnny Depp as the Boston mobster, and has consequently shelved the planned Bulger movie that would have been directed by Ben Affleck and star Matt Damon.

The site notes that Affleck and Damon were give a day or two of advance notice, with that notice coming a day before the latest draft of the script came in. There are said to be "bruised feelings" over the decision; the film would have been the first for Affleck and Damon under their overall deal with Warners via Pearl Street.

The site also notes that Joel Edgerton is in talks to play corrupt FBI agent John Connolly, who handled Bulger when he turned informant.
