[Movies] New Matrix Trilogy Rumored to Be In the Works
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 02.28.2014

Okay, so take this with a grain of salt because of the source and the lack of confirmation elsewhere. But Latino Review reports that the Wachowskis are set to revisit the Matrix universe with Warner Bros. for a new trilogy. The site claims that Warner Bros. is "desperate for a surefire franchise" and is trying to get the films ready in time to take on the Avatar and Star Wars films that hit in 2017. No word on if Wachowskis would direct.

The site notes that the scripts are already being written, with Warner in possession of "early treatments and outlines." One of those outlines allegedly covers the birth of the Matrix, suggesting prequels and perhaps of of the previous "Ones" that the Architect mentioned in The Matrix: Revolutions.

The franchise was deeply profitable for Warner Bros., bringing in $1.632 billion in total. The last two films were releasd in 2003.
