[Movies] Idris Elba Set to Voice Shere Khan in Jon Favreauís The Jungle Book
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 03.06.2014

Deadline reports that Idris Elba has signed on for director Jon Favreau's upcoming live action adaptation of The Jungle Book from Walt Disney Pictures. Elba will be voicing Shere Khan, the villainous tiger, for the film.

The original book by author Rudyard Kipling was first published in 1894. One of its classic tales follows the Indian boy, Mowgli, who is raised by wolves and grows up among the animals in the jungle.

Disney previously released a popular animated version of the story in 1967 and then another live-action film in 1994. The new script was written by Justin Marks. In addition, with the book in the public domain, Warner Bros. is also developing their own live action film with Steve Kloves (Harry Potter) writing the screenplay and Ron Howard attached to direct.

Disney's new Jungle Book film is slated for an October 9, 2015 release.
