[Movies] Liam Neeson Explains Why He Turned Down Playing James Bond
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 03.09.2014

Speaking to The Mirror, actor Liam Neeson said he was offered the role of James Bond almost 20 years ago, but he turned it down.

Neeson stated, "I was heavily courted, let's put it that way, and I'm sure some other actors were too. It was about 18 or 19 years ago and my wife-to-be said, ‘If you play James Bond we're not getting married.' And I had to take that on board because I did want to marry her."

The role ultimately went to Pierce Brosnan after Neeson turned it down, and Goldeneye starring Brosnan as Bond was released in 1995. According to Neeson, he has no regrets over any of the roles he's passed on.
