[TV] Showtime Reveals Second Season Premiere Dates For Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex
Posted by Joseph Lee on 03.20.2014

Coming Soon reports that Showtime has announced second season premiere dates for Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex. They will return back-to-back at 9 PM and 10 PM on July 13. The second seasons will have 12 one-hour episodes.

Ray Donovan stars Liev Schreiber in the title role with Jon Voight as his father. It is Showtime's highest-rated debut series ever.

Here's a synopsis: Set in the sprawling mecca of the rich and famous, Schreiber plays LA's best professional fixer, the man called in to make the city's celebrities, superstar athletes, and business moguls' most complicated and combustible situations go away. Season one came to a close with an epic showdown resulting in Boston mobster and fugitive, Sully's (James Woods) demise. Season two of this powerful drama, will explore the fallout of his murder for Ray, his father Mickey and the FBI, headed by LA Bureau Chief Cochran (guest star Hank Azaria). As the season unfolds, Ray continues to seek balance between the demands of his family, including his volatile relationship with Mickey, and the demands of his Hollywood clients.

The series also stars Paula Malcomson, Eddie Marsan, Dash Mihok, Steven Bauer, Katherine Moennig, Pooch Hall, Kerris Dorsey and Devon Bagby. Elliott Gould will return as a special guest star. Other guest stars include Ann-Margret, Wendell Pierce, Sherilyn Fenn, Vinessa Shaw, Brian Geraghty, Heather McComb and Kip Pardue. The series was created and executive produced by Ann Biderman, Mark Gordon and Bryan Zuriff.

Masters of Sex stars Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan as the real-life pioneers of the science of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson. The series was selected as one of AFI's Top Ten TV programs of the year.

Here's a synopsis: The series chronicles the unusual lives, romance and pop culture trajectory of Masters and Johnson. Their research touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a mid-western teaching hospital in St. Louis to the cover of Time magazine.

The show is an adaptation of Thomas Maier's book Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, The Couple Who Taught America How To Love.

Season two will also star Caitlin Fitzgerald, Teddy Sears and Annaleigh Ashford with guest stars Betsy Brandt and Keke Palmer. The series was created and executive produced by Michelle Ashford (The Pacific). It is executive produced by Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman, Judith Verno and Amy Lippman, with Michael Dinner, Michael Sheen, Tammy Rosen and Thomas Maier producing (along with Sony Pictures Television).
