[Movies] Captain America: The Winter Soldier Earns $37 Million On Friday
Posted by Joseph Lee on 04.05.2014

Superhero Hype reports that Captain America: The Winter Solider has earned $37 million on it's opening day in 3,938 North American theaters (2D, 3D and IMAX 3D) , beating the previous April record set by Fast Five in 2011. The movie previously brought in $10.2 million from Thursday night previews. It currently has an A on Cinemascore and strong word of mouth.

Fast Five earned $34.4 million opening day before it set an April opening weekend record with $86.2 million. To compare The Winter Soldier's debut with other Marvel features, Thor: The Dark World opened with $31.9 million before earning $85.7 million in its first weekend. Iron Man 3 had $68.9 million on its opening day while DC Comics' Man of Steel earned $44 million on opening day (with $12 million from Thursday previews).

It's possible the film could earn $100 million during opening weekend, joining The Avengers, Iron Man, The Dark Knight and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies in that group.
