[TV] Tom Hardy and Ridley Scott Team Up for New Series Taboo Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 04.06.2014
A new period drama series...
Deadline reports that Tom Hardy is set to star in the BBC One series called Taboo, which is executive produced by filmmaker Ridley Scott. The show was created by Steven Knight (Locke) and is based on an original story by Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy.
The series is set in the 19th century and follows an adventurer named James Keziah Delaney (Hardy), who battles the East India Company during a pivotal point in British history when "the rising power of the Empire seeped into every dark corner," according to Scott. Delaney seeks to avenge the death of his father after returning to England with "14 ill-gotten diamonds." After Delaney refuses to sell his business to the East India Company, he plays "a dangerous game with two warring nations, Britain and America."
Hardy says the show is a "flagship British drama for his generation" and a "hybrid of orthodox and unconventional storytelling, packed with darkness and spirited character."
Taboo will begin shooting in January 2015 and will air on BBC One.
