[Movies] Producer Says Point Break Remake Will Be Very Different From the Original
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 04.07.2014

Well, this will go over well. Producer Broderick Johnson spoke with Collider about Alcon's Point Break remake, revealing that second-unit filming is already in progress and giving some updates about the film's similarity to the original. The answer: not much.

"The script only shares in common with the original the characters and the nature of the character dynamic between Utah and Bodhi and their relationship," Johnson told the site. "Everything else about the movie is different. The narrative of the movie is different...While we do have surfing in the film, it is only a subset of the extreme sports that we deal with, including free-climbing, motocross, wing-suiting and so forth. The movie is being shot in 10 countries across the globe."

He added, "What we found fascinating about the original film, and is preserved in this, is the character work and the relationship between Bodhi and Utah, who are these two gentlemen on opposite sides of the law, and yet share a common bond. That's the one element that the two movies share."

The film will be released in 3D and IMAX and will open next year. Gerard Butler and Luke Bracey will be playing Bodhi and Johnny Utah, respectively, with Ericson Core directing.
