[Movies] Universal Studios To Get Fast & Furious-Themed Ride
Posted by Joseph Lee on 04.08.2014

Inside the Magic reports that just before Universal Studios Hollywood launches its latest addition (Despicable Me Minion Mayhem), it has announced that it will add a new feature to its studio tram tour called Fast & Furious - Supercharged.

The attraction is described as a "3D-HD thrill ride". It will feature stars from the series.

Here's a synopsis: The story will put guests in the high-stakes underground world of fast cars, where their identity is exposed, join the cast in a harrowing escapade to save one of their own from an international crime cartel. The adventure will culminate with action sequences through the streets of Los Angeles, making guests feel they are traveling in excess of 120 miles per hour.

It is a hydraulic motion-based ride with special effects, 3D audio and 3D imagery on the world's longest 360-degree screen which is almost 400 feet in length to surround the guests in a newly-built 50,000-square foot structure on the backlot. It will feature eighteen 4K projectors. On the path there will be prop cars from the series, including Dom's Dodge Charger.

Mark Woodbury, President of Universal Creative, said: "We've embarked on a new medium of immersive entertainment that brings to life the characters, hyper-realistic action adventure and custom-made effects to transport guests into the exciting world of Fast & Furious. Our collaboration with Universal Pictures to bring this franchise to life through epic storytelling and technological breakthroughs continues to be a hallmark of Universal Studios Hollywood."

There will be longer hours on some of the tours, with a different story and effects when its dark. You can see concept art from the ride below. The attraction isn't a stand-alone ride, but an add-on to the current tram tour. It will open next summer.
