[Movies] Baz Luhrmann In Talks To Direct Kung Fu
Posted by Joseph Lee on 04.11.2014

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Baz Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby, Moulin Rogue) is in talks to direct Legendary Pictures adaptation of the 1970s martial arts Western TV show Kung Fu. If he signs on, he would also do a re-write of the script, which was written by Rich Wilkes (XXX).

The series starred David Carradine as Kwai Chang Caine, a Shaolin monk who goes to the American West to find his half-brother. It showed flashbacks of his training as a teen, in which his master called him "young grasshopper", which became ingrained in pop culture. It aired on ABC from 1972 to 1975. It was later followed by a spin-off called Kung Fu: The Legend Continues that ran from 1993 to 1997.

The script moves the setting to China, where Caine searches for his father and gets put in prison, where he has to fight to survive.
