Actor says they won't happen...
All right folks, so take this for what you will, but Benedict Cumberbatch was busy squashing the hopes of fanboys and fangirls everywhere this weekend. The Iris reports that the Sherlock and Star Trek Into Darkness star said that he will not appear on Doctor Who, which is run by Sherlock's showrunner Steven Moffat.
Cumberbatch has long been a fan choice to pop up in a role on the show, with the Doctor's longtime adversary The Master as the most common choice. However, the actor said, "I'm never gonna play the Doctor – and nothing to do with the Whoniverse."
He also shot down the rumors that he was up for a role in Star Wars: Episode VII. Speculation about the actor appearing in that film has also been rampant thanks to his association with JJ Abrams via Star Trek Into Darkness. However, he noted, "I would've liked a part in JJ's new Star Wars but it won't happen, sadly."
Now keep in mind, this is the guy who said for months that he wasn't Khan. So he's not averse to playing down media coverage for a good surprise. But based on his words at least, don't count on it.
