Starz's New Series Flesh and Bone Begins Production
Posted by Joseph Lee on 04.25.2014

Coming Soon reports that the Starz drama Flesh and Bone started production this week in New York City. The first season will consist of eight one-hour episodes. It was created by Breaking Bad writer and executive producer Moira Walley-Beckett. It will debut on Starz next year and is currently shooting at Steiner Studios, Kaufman Astoria Studios and various New York locations.

Here's a synopsis: Follows a young ballet dancer with a distinctly troubled past, as she joins a prestigious ballet company in New York. The dark and gritty series will unflinchingly explore the dysfunction and glamour of the ballet world.

Dancer Sarah Hay (Black Swan) stars along with former American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Irina Dvorovenko and current solo dancer Sascha Radetsky, Ballet Arizona company dancer Raychel Diane Weiner and Emily Tyra (Boardwalk Empire). Royal New Zealand Ballet artistic director and former American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Ethan Stiefel will work as a choreographer on the series. David Michod (Animal Kingdom, The Rover) will direct the pilot. Walley-Beckett will executive produce with Lawrence Bender (Inglourious Basterds, Pulp Fiction and Good Will Hunting), Kevin Brown (Roswell) and John Melfi (Sex and the City, House of Cards).
