It's their "Yellow Wedding"...
In an interview with TVLine, The Simpsons executive producers Al Jean and Matt Selman spoke about the upcoming death of a character during the season 26 premiere this fall.
If you're not caught up on Game of Thrones, you may want to click away as Jean's quotes contain spoilers when he compares the two shows.
When asked if the character could appear later after dying, Jean said that it could be in a Halloween episode or a dream sequence. He said: "We always have kind of a flexible reality."
Selman added: "What we told the performer is, ‘This does not mean the end of your participation in The Simpsons'."
Finally, Jean revealed just how big the death is going to be. He said: "This is going to be a bigger deal than King Joffrey on Game of Thrones – the Yellow Wedding! The character that dies is portrayed by an actor who won an Emmy for playing that character. People who reported on it then reported we were killing an ‘iconic' character; I'd like to say it's a great character, but I never used the word ‘iconic.' It's a terrific character and it [happens in] our premiere this coming year."
This Sunday will be the show's 550th episode, and the entire Springfield community will be turned into LEGOs. Meanwhile, season 26 will also feature a crossover episode with Futurama called "Simpsorama".
