Amazing Spider-Man Producers Say Miles Morales Won't Appear in Franchise
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 05.01.2014

Calm down, internet. After Andrew Garfield riled up Peter Parker fans by saying that he would like to see Miles Morales--the Ultimate universe version of Spider-Man--take over the franchise at some point, Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach stepped up to promise that such a thing won't happen. The producers for Sony's Spidey franchise spoke with the Playlist and said that there won't be any non-Peter Parker Spideys on the big screen, equating the idea to the disastrous Clone Saga of the mid-1990s.

When asked about it, Tolmach just flat-out said "No." Arad expounded a little bit more, saying, "The one thing you cannot do, when you have a phenomena that has stood the test of time, you have to be true to the real character inside – who is Peter Parker? What are the biggest effects on his life? Then you can draw in time, and you can consider today's world in many ways. But to have multiple ones… I don't know if you remember, but Marvel tried it. And it was almost the end of Spider-Man."

There are currently two more Amazing Spider-Man films officially scheduled, and Garfield said he wasn't totally sure he was on board four a fourth turn at the wheel. We'll see where that goes; meanwhile, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens on Friday.
