Gerard Butler will return...
Coming Soon reports that Focus Features has acquired the US distribution rights to London Has Fallen, which will star Gerard Butler. The script was written by Creighton Rothenberger & Katrin Benedikt and Christian Gudegast. It will be produced by Gerard Butler, Alan Siegel, Mark Gill, and Matt O'Toole. Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson, Christine Crow, and Focus Features CEO Peter Schlessel will executive produce. The film will be released on October 2, 2015.
The first film, Olympus Has Fallen, was released on March 22, 2013 by FilmDistrict (led by Peter Schlessel before he was named CEO of Focus). It earned over $98.9 million domestically.
Schlessel said: "'Olympus Has Fallen' took audiences by storm, and we're excited to raise the stakes with 'London Has Fallen' as Gerard Butler returns in the lead. Moviegoers can expect another action-packed thrill ride."
Here's a synopsis: The sequel begins in London, where the British Prime Minister has passed away under mysterious circumstances. His funeral is a must-attend event for leaders of the Western world. But what starts out as the most protected event on earth, turns into a deadly plot to kill the world's most powerful leaders and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. Only three people have any hope of stopping it: the President of the United States, his formidable secret service head (Butler), and an English MI-6 agent who rightly trusts no one.
