It's already made $155 million internationally...
Coming Soon reports that Sony Pictures' The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has earned $8.7 million from Thursday previews in many of the 4,324 theaters it will debut in throughout North America.
The last film was released over the fourth of July weekend in 2012. It earned $7.5 million from midnight screenings. To compare to Marvel Studios, Captain America: The Winter Soldier brought in $10.2 million from Thursday previews last month. Spider-Man's gross is also lower than last year's Man of Steel. The Warner Bros reboot of the Superman property brought in $9 million from Thursday screenings and went on to make $116.6 million for its opening weekend. Of course, all of these are lower than the last two movies to open May and the summer, as The Avengers (2012) and Iron Man 3 both made over $15 million for Thursday screenings.
The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan and Paul Giamatti. It will likely bring in more children than Captain America did, meaning it could end up making more on Saturday and Sunday. It's expected to earn around $90 million. It's already earned $155 million internationally. It also opens in China and Brazil this weekend.
