Lena Headey To Star In Clive Barker's Jacqueline Ess Posted by Joseph Lee on 05.06.2014
Based on his short story...
Variety reports that Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) will star in a film adaptation of Clive Barker's Jacqueline Ess: A Will and Testament. Raven Banner Entertainment and Seraphim Films will produce, with Raven selling the film at Cannes. The movie goes into production late this year.
Barker said: "Lena Headey is a marvelous performer with an incredible presence. As far as I'm concerned, there is no better choice of actress for the role of Jacqueline. Her beauty and authority will carry the day."
This will be the feature debut for director Jovanka Vuckovic. She previously directed the short film The Captured Bird (executive produced by Guillermo del Toro) and was part of the all-female horror anthology XX. She also co-wrote the script with Christian Francis.
Jacqueline Ess is one of Barker's more unusual tales, and that's saying something. The short story follows a woman who becomes bored with her life and tries to commit suicide. She recovers and finds out she has the ability to transform the bodies of others, which she can use to kill people easily. It appeared in Barker's Books of Blood anthologies, which also featured stories that eventually were adapted into the films Candyman and Lord of Illusions.
The film will be co-produced by Headey and Vuckovic. Barker and Seraphim's Mark Miller and Ben Meares will executive produce.
