Focus Features Acquires US Distribution Rights for Bastille Day
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 05.18.2014

Focus Features has officially announced that they've acquired the North American distribution rights for the action thriller Bastille Day. The film stars Idris Elba and Adele Exarchopoulos.

The film is directed by James Watkins and written by Andrew Baldwin. The project is being produced by Philippe Rousselet and his Vendome Pictures banner, along with Steve Golin, David Kanter, and Bard Dorros for Anonymous Content. Principal production is set to begin later this summer.

Bastille Day is set in Paris and follows a rogue CIA agent, who must team up with an unsuspecting American con-artist living abroad to stop a terrorist attack on French soil.

Focus Features CEO Peter Schlessel stated in the release: "We are all excited to be working with James, these accomplished producers, and the incomparable Idris Elba on what will surely be a thrill ride set in Paris, one of the greatest cities in the world."

Rousselet added on the announcement: "We are all thrilled to have Focus Features distribute our film. We could not have dreamed of a better home for it and we look forward to collaborating with Peter and his fantastic team."

Studiocanal is financing the project and handling international sales. They will also distribute the film in France, UK, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.
