Edgar Wright No Longer Directing Ant-Man
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 05.23.2014

In a surprise move, Marvel has announced that Edgar Wright has stepped away from directing Ant-Man. The studio and Wright released a joint statement announcing that the Shaun of the Dead helmer, who co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish, has parted amicably with the production "due to differences in their vision of the film." Marvel has already brought a new director on board but declined to say who at this time.

This is not the first time that a director has left a Marvel project before pre-production due to creative differences with the studio; Patty Jenkins was set to direct Thor: The Dark World but left in December of 2011. The studio brought Alan Taylor on for that project. The full cast is still on board with Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena and Patrick Wilson continuing on with the film.

Marvel noted that the decision was a joint one between studio and director and will not influence the July 17th, 2015 release date.
