The Wolverine Director Lines Up Joe Namath Biopic
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 05.28.2014

THR reports that director James Mangold (The Wolverine) is in talks to direct a big screen biopic on the life of NFL quarterback Joe Namath for Fox 2000. Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, who worked with Mangold on 3:10 to Yuma, are writing the script.

The story would follow Namath from his hometown of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania who goes on to become "Broadway Joe," the new York Jets quarterback and 1960s cultural figure.

Mangold was previously connected to a different biopic on Namath before at Universal. Jake Gyllenhaal was attached to headline that version, which was written by David Hollander.

The project is being produced by Fox 2000's Elizabeth Gabler and Tree Line Films' Cathy Konrad and Andrew Lazar.
