Warrior Director To Helm Massacre In The Himalayas Posted by Joseph Lee on 06.02.2014
Based on a true story...
Variety reports that director Gavin O'Connor (Warrior, Jane Got A Gun, Miracle) is set to direct the film Massacre in the Himalayas. It's based on Freddie Wilkinson's Men's Journal story in August 2013. Gianni Nunnari's Hollywood Gang Productions acquired the movie rights to the article. It focuses on an international team of mountain climbers who try to climb the K2 summit in Pakistan but are attacked by a group of extremists. Terrorists killed ten climbers and the local Pakistani cook.
O'Connor will also produce with Nunnari (300, 300: Rise of an Empire, Immortals). HGP's Shannon Gaulding will executive produce. A screenwriter has not been hired yet, but producers are looking.
O'Connor said: "I love the idea of using the colossal backdrop of K2, the second highest peak on earth, to explore a man's battle for survival against the Taliban, nature, and himself. Our hero becomes a one-man army on a quest to avenge the deaths of his mountaineering team. His experience becomes a living nightmare, a lifetime journey, and a redefinition of the man. ‘Massacre In The Himalayas' is a Hollywood Gang kind of movie. It's hard-hitting and it's about extreme men in extreme circumstance. And Gavin is our perfect filmmaker; no one else brings his level of intensity or creates his kind of nuanced characters."
