Tim Roth Joins The Cast Of Selma
Posted by Joseph Lee on 06.03.2014

Deadline reports that Tim Roth has signed on to play Alabama governor George Wallace in Selma. Wallace favored segregation and his bullying methods led to Martin Luther King Jr's 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery. Wallace tried to stop the march. When the first protesters showed up they were beaten by Alabama State Troopers. This caused national outrage and protestors both black and white showed up from all over America. Eventually President Johnson said it wasn't a color problem but an American problem and he pushed for the Voting Rights Act, which gave African-Americans the right to vote.

The film will be directed by Ava DuVernay for Paramount and stars David Oyelowo as Dr. King and Tom Wilkinson as President Lyndon Johnson. The film will be produced by Christian Colson, DuVernay, Oprah Winfrey along with Plan B's Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner. DuVernay wrote the screenplay with Paul Webb.
