"Marvel are doing fine on their own..."
In an interview with Superhero Hype, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller spoke about the possibility of Marvel superheroes appearing in the sequel to The LEGO Movie. The first film included appearances from Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and Green Lantern in LEGO Form thanks to Warner Bros distributing the film. Marvel Comics also has a relationship with LEGO that includes playsets and figures, along with the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes game.
Here's what the directors said:
Lord: "Marvel seems to be doing fine on their own."
Miller: They don't need LEGO to make their movies successful."
Lord: "It's really hard to convince a company, especially business affairs, to do something, because it would be cool or fun. It takes a lot of effort."
Miller: "And then (in) ‘The LEGO Movie," definitely, there were a lot of behind the scenes legal and business affairs wrangling to get a lot of the stuff we had in that one."
Lord: "We hope so. Hopefully it will be like another Roger Rabbit situation where, ‘Of course, we'd love to be a part of this,' but who knows?"
