Goonies never say no to a sequel...
E! News spoke with Sean Astin at the 2014 ATX TV Festival, where he said that he and Corey Feldman are on board for a sequel to The Goonies. It was revealed that Richard Donner was working on a sequel to the 1985 film. Donner said "hopefully all" of the cast would reprise their roles, including Astin, Feldman, Josh Brolin and Martha Plimpton.
Astin said: "My first thought when Dick said he was doing that was like, ‘Alright, maybe this time it's true!' I hope it's true. I certainly like the idea of doing it. I don't know if I'd be in it or not. If they really wanted us to be in it, I'm sure there would be some way to work it out."
When asked about Feldman's status, he added: ""We talk a lot. Corey and I are buddies," Astin said. "Oh, he's fired up. He's ready to go."
Finally, he was asked if the sequel would focus on the children of the original Goonies. He said: "I think that's what they want to do. I think they want to focus primarily on the kids. I think the audience may be split on that, so they're trying to figure it out. It'll happen, whether in my lifetime or not."
