Tom Hiddleston to Star in Hank Williams Biopic
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 06.12.2014

Deadline reports that Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers, Thor) is set to play the lead role in I Saw the Light, a biopic based on the country singer Hank Williams. Marc Abraham (Flash of Genius) will write and direct the film, based on Colin Escott's Hank Williams: The Biography.

Williams was an influential and popular country music singer, who grew up poor in Alabama during the Depression. He's known for such classic songs as "Cold, Cold Heart," "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." He also suffered from spina bifida, which caused him to turn to morphine and alcohol for relief from the pain. Williams tragically died in 1953 at the age of 29.

The project is being co-produced and co-funded by RatPac Entertainment, Bron Studios, and Creative Wealth Media Finance are co-producing and co-funding the project. The film will likely shoot this October in Louisiana.
